This Darley family wanted a pool. They had a great backyard, a sloping block, and a vacant lot next door that should have made access simple. But the neighbouring property owner wouldn’t grant permission, and no amount of negotiation changed that. So we went back to the drawing board.
To get the pool shell into position, we brought in a 90-tonne all-terrain crane, one of the biggest lifts we’ve done on a residential install. The crane reached over the house, the retaining walls, and every other obstacle standing between the shell and the excavation. It’s not a cheap solution, and this family knew that going in. They made the call anyway, because they’d set their hearts on getting this pool built.
The block itself presented its own challenges. With a natural slope across the yard, we built retaining walls to create a level pool surround that would hold for the long term. The site overlooks a pump station, so there were additional considerations around the installation that had to be worked through carefully.
For the shell, the family chose the Leisure Pools Acclaim in Sapphire Blue, measuring 10.15 x 4.4 metres. That colour choice was deliberate. They wanted to draw the eye down into the yard and add some depth and drama to the space. In Sapphire Blue, the Acclaim delivers exactly that.
It took more planning, more equipment and more cost than a typical install. But the result is a pool built to last in a backyard that almost didn’t have one.
